So I finally closed my old Etsy shop, things have been slow for a while and as much as I love vintage and it’s been a very good sideline for me, to the point where it became so busy it took over and became my mainline, it’s time to get back to being creative. As sales decline, the break from creating has done me a world of good, it made me realise how much I like being creative and has given me time to refocus and reorganize so that I move forward with my creative career.
I’m coming up to four years of being self-employed, it’s been a slow amble of a journey but I think that’s a good thing. It has and always will be a journey of learning and pushing myself to see what I’m capable of. My new shop opened last November in preparation of switching over, I did a soft launch put a few pieces up to establish a base that I could build up from when I did do the final switch over. It also means less work now. I know the next few months are going to be lean as I build up almost from scratch again. I have come to accept that I will probably never a specific, stylised brand like most because I make mostly one-off creations. I will also be using and working with what I already have to free up space, be resourceful and create with less waste. I have lots of ideas for things for the shop which will serve it’s purpose whilst I focus on getting back into art and painting but who knows what the future holds.
As for my blog I will be mostly going back to a more creative element in regards to my sewing and making clothes. Posts may not be as frequent but I think over the years blogging has focused too much on quantity rather than quality. It’s good banging out five posts a week to stay on the grid but pointless if they just become repetitive as everyone follows the ‘golden rules’ of blogging. Apart of me feels like giving up on blogging but then I like writing and sharing the things I make and interest me, and I guess that’s what really matters. I have and always been a rambly, not sure what my point is type of blogger anyway, doubt that will change much!
I’m slowly getting back into sewing my own clothes, I’ve been planning my wardrobe and thinking more about what clothes I want or need, styles I like, prints and patterns versus plan, capsule wardrobes and so will be writing a bit about that more that and other stuff as it takes my fancy. Anyway I am off to plant myself back in my work room and actually get back to making things, it’s been a while since I sat down and made things on an almost daily basis, I don’t think it will be long before I get my groove back.
If you haven’t already check out my shop, I will definitely be updating it on a more frequent basis with lots of new things, I’ve started knitting my winter items but mostly because I’m a slow knitter!
