#BEDN – Healthy Living

Sometimes there is only so much of the healthy living agenda I can take before it actually sucks the joy out of actual living! Let me explain, we live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with information, articles etc on how to be healthy, how to have the perfect body and face, how much we should exercise, what we should eat, what causes cancer, what cures cancer and so and so on and so on that we forget why we are being healthy in the first place and it just becomes a big competition. I could have written a post about eating healthy and exercising, it’s something I struggled with for years because I had an unhealthy attitude towards it, I was doing it for the wrong reasons. Well sort of. I do believe in having a healthy life, everything in moderation is my thinking. I exercise, I eat healthy but I also indulge a little.
I read a tweet the other day that said, in order to love our bodies we need to understand why we started hating them in the first place! I used to be an avid reader of fashion magazines because I love fashion. I know the models are air-bushed and no one walks round with a lighting technician and though they are supposed to ‘inspire’ they instead subconsciously start eating away at our self-esteem, so I quit them! I quit a lot of things over the last few years as well, like listening to people’s negative criticisms, actually I’m just quitting negative people full stop. I spent along time surrounded by negative people, always blaming the rest of the world for their problems that it really started to have detrimental effect on my health. So I just started letting go, one by one. There are somethings in this world that you have no control over or can’t change but can you can change your attitude to life. Sometimes it is as simple as just accepting that we do not have the ability to change things.
To be healthy is not just to eat well and exercise, to be healthy also means mentally taking care of ourselves as well. Life isn’t always sunshine and lollipops but I’ve been though enough storms to know that they do not last for ever!
