We Got Hitched!

So at Christmas me and The Goth were talking about marriage but not specifically to us and I said that if we got married I’d liked to get married on the 16 May, which is the day we went on our first date and met for the first time, and is our official anniversary. So he said let’s do it! Originally we planned for 2016 but that’s a Monday so we decided to see if this year was free and it was so we had four and bit months to plan a wedding. Neither of us wanted a big traditional affair, just a quick ceremony at the registry office and some drinks and nibbles after with a few friends and close family.
I did the cakes and decorations myself, the reception was held at out favourite pub across the road from our house and they did an awesome buffet which included lots of yummy vegan and gluten free options. We opted out of a hiring a photographer and got our friends to take photos instead, we just wanted a totally chilled day and for people to feel as relaxed as possible, and it was and it was amazing and for someone who’s always never been that fussed about getting married, I’m pretty glad I did it!
I made the table decorations by recycling old jars with twine and present toppers bought from Paperchase. The tropical birds were bought from Tiger and the flowers from the local supermarket!
We also grabbed an assortment of postcards from Paperchase and photo clips from Tiger.
We also raided the charity shops for games (I admit I stole this idea from someone else), as we weren’t having a DJ (I stuck a load of tunes onto my ipod and then didn’t realise they forgot to hit shuffle so they all played in alphabetical order!!!), or speeches I thought it would be a good ice breaker for guests.
I made the cakes myself, as you can see not traditional wedding cakes. The one to the left was a vegan, gluten free chocolate sponge with chocolate (vegan) butter cream icing and fresh raspberries. The iced cake was a five layer rainbow sponge cake. The decorations were from Tiger and to symbolise that despite getting married I’m not giving up my crazy cat lady status!! The napkins were a homage to Beetlejuice because I originally wanted to make a Beetlejuice inspired cake but ran out of time!
We had the reception at our favourite pub The Antelope, the food and service before and during was amazing and very reasonably priced. The bunting and lighting was their own which meant less worry for us about having to decorate the place.
My bouquet was made up of blue and rainbow roses bought from a flower stall called Isle of Flowers in London Bridge station after the lovely Rock N Roll Bride posted them in her instagram feed. Up until a week before the wedding I was just going to go to the flower stall down the road and pick up some brightly coloured blooms but saw these and you all know my obsession with rainbows so I had to have these!
And a few candid shots just after we got a married at Wandsworth Town Hall.
So that’s just a little look into our low key, low budget wedding. My next job is making some thank you cards for all our wonderful guests. I don’t want to be a wedding bore but I will be doing a a What The Bride Wore post to start off my What I Wore/Made series and also because I want to show how I altered my own dress.
