2014 in Review

It’s been a quite a good year all in all full achievements and adventures, I took up ballet again, quit my evil, evil day job and chose health and happiness instead, went to my first music festival abroad, finally got to VLV in Las Vegas and went to lots of exhibitions.

Books

My Goodreads challenge, like previous years has gone good and bad, good in that I read more books than last years and a bad that I didn’t manage to finish the challenge but now I’m less stressed and tired I plan on reading lots, lots more next year and blogging about each book. You can find me on Goodreads here.

Telly

I’ve rediscovered my love of a good telly series, over the last few years I’ve not really been in to watching TV series but this year I got into Sleepy Hollow, American Horror Story Freakshow, the exceptionally brilliant Toast. I’m also watching The Strain and Gotham but find them very over stylised and a bit weak on content. I think they are relying too much on big cast members to pull them off, although Gotham is getting better as it goes along.

Movies

There wasn’t much cinema action this year but I did get to See The Raid 2, which was awesome and Only Lovers Left Alive which is high up on my list of credible vampire movies and 20,000 Days on Earth and Grand Hotel Budapest

Music

It’s been a good year for music, been to quite a few gigs , bought quite a lot of albums new and second hand and also finally got a vinyl player! Went to my first festival abroad and saw my favourite bands play on my birthday weekend. Favourite gig was probably watching Portishead on Birthday, favourite album was Afghan Whigs’ Do To The Beast, favourite find is split between the Purple Rain and Saturday Night Fever soundtracks on vinyl.

Writing

Well as you know NaNoWrimo was a bust (again!) but I have back into blogging and got the bug to write short stories again.

Art

Saw some good exhibitions this year, my favourite has to be the Neon Museum in Las Vegas but I also loved the Disobedient Objects at the V&A, Martin Creed at the Hayward Gallery and the Gothic Imagination and the British Library.

Travel

This year was a good year for travel, took a tube train, plane, coach, ferry and taxi to get to our first destination in Victoria , BC, Canada, then on to Van City and finally Vegas for the Viva Las Vegas 17 festival. Also went to Paris for the Rock en Seine festival, learnt that we should have stayed in a hotel instead and went to Berlin for the first time as well.

Looking forward to lots of new adventures next year.

Happy New Year
