So before I plunged myself into the world of self employment and had to tighten the purse strings a little, I kinda splurged a bit on music. They were mainly second hand charity shop finds, some are new but most of the music I have bought is back catalogue, filling in the gaps stuff I just never got round to buying yet. I say all in all so far this year I’ve probably bought around 60 albums on varying formats so far this year! Anyhoo here are some of my favourite finds this year.
Ed Harcourt – Maplewood
Ed Harcourt I believe releases about one album a week! Okay that is a slight exaggeration but he is an amazing musician and song writer, in fact I’d say he’s my favourite song writer. This album is only six tracks long so probably more of a mini album/EP than an actual album but who cares it’s Ed Harcourt. My favourite track on this album is He’s Building a Swamp, I really love the trumpet accompaniment on this track.
This soundtrack makes me want to learn accordion, have funny pictures taken in photo booths and make fancy french treats.
Favourite track – La Valse D’Amelie (piano version) and Comptine D’un Autre Ete: L’Apres Midi, they are beautiful piano pieces.
Only Lover Left Alive Soundtrack
Have you seen Only Lovers Left Alive? If not go and see it, Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston and perfectly matched as vampire lovers. The soundtrack is amazing and the score is by Jozef Van Wissem and Squrl.
When I saw this blood red vinyl edition off the soundtrack I had to add to our collection, it even came in a Pharmacie carrier bag like the ones in the film.
Favourite tracks – Streets of Detroit, The Taste of Blood, Street of Tangiers and Only Lovers Left Alive.
Tori Amos – Tales of The librarian
Cornflake Girl, that is all!!!!
Altan Urag – Made in Altan Urag
The Goth was recommended this album on spotify, if you like Mongolian Folk Rock then you’ll probably love Altan Urag or are already in love with them, if you’ve never heard Mongolian Folk Rock, give this album a whirl and you’ll probably love it.
Favourite track – Waves and Mother Mongolia
Madonna – True Blue
Gotta love a bit of classic Madge! I was nine when this album was released and have been dancing and badly singing along to these tracks ever since.
Favourite tracks – Papa Don’t Preach, Live To Tell and La Isla Bonita.
Neneh Cherry – Raw Like Sushi
Buffola Stance, Man Child, over sized sneakers and dancing pregnant on Top of The Pops, this woman is my idol.
Favourite track – Manchild
The Afghan Whigs – Do to The Beast
I think you’ve already heard me say this is breathtakingly beautiful and it is, by far my favourite albums of theirs.
Favourtite track -Lost in the Woods, Parked Outside and Royal Cream
