1 August 2012 – Somewhere on the District Line
I haven’t regularly commuted on a daily basis for about seven years, before that it was bussing to work, it’s been about twelve years since the whole tube/train into work. The last seven years I’ve been walking to work, forty five minutes each way which was not only a good dose of daily exercise it also helped me unwind from the daily stress of the hellhole (work) on my way home. Now ensconced to The Burb’s of lower Essex I’m back on the commuter wagon.
I managed to drag my sorry carcass out of bed at 5:30 this morning so I can get in early, miss the main rush hour and leave to get home earlier. It was hard but once in the shower not so bad and after the first journey have convinced myself I can do this, it also helps having company along the way to make sure I don’t fall asleep. The downside to commuting is no more long walks on a daily basis, so no more excuses not to do some other exercise, probably should dust off the hula hoop. On the plus side I get to catch up on my reading. I’m not very good at just sitting down to read a book especially with so many crafting projects to get on with or the Internet to distract me. Reading is a luxury usually reserved for when soaking in the bath tub or when on holiday.
So now I get two hours a day that I could optionally use for reading and now can potentially start on the back log of books I have stacking up waiting to be read. To honest I have missed not having time to read, so I guess commuting could be a blessing in disguise. As for exercise, I guess I could always read and hula hoop at the same time.
